Tonight involved a drive out straight after work to Hetchell Woods. The changing colours of the autumn trees were the inspiration for my latest painting. I chose a spot and hurried to get my gear out but the sun soon started to go. Time was of the essence so I quickly dropped in an underpainting with Art Graf blocks and rubbing alcohol, followed by speedily adding in soft pastels. The light soon faded, leaving us with a beautiful vivid sunset behind the distant trees. I found it quite refreshing to put down so much information in the space of forty minutes and not feel the need to complete the painting for a change. I plan to do a larger version of this picture back in my studio.
