My Re-Loved Frames idea came from not only a requirement to complete my paintings for a show, but also from wanting suitable frames and colours to match some of my pictures. After scouring many charity shops for various sizes and styles I now have quite a collection.
After disassembling the components I wipe the frame with sugar soap before giving it two coats of chalk paint. When it is completely dry I finish it off with a wax and buff. The glass is washed with soapy water and any sticky residue removed. A new mount is made to the correct size and attached to the picture with archival linen hinging tape to keep it from moving around. It is then reassembled with any extra fittings added.
Not only do you end up with a bespoke frame but I like to think that I am doing my bit for charity and the environment too.
